Some Really Boring Facts About Apple
So these are some really boring facts about computers. I hope you still can follow along and learn something new.
Apple's Top 5 Innovations (in my opinion)
- The iPhone. It remains Apple's biggest innovation to date, with over half of its yearly revenue coming from said product.
- The iPod. The only "decent" music player that came before this was the walkman. It was unfortunately discontinued a couple weeks ago, after 21 years of being on its website.
- AirPort. It was the first ever device that allowed computers to wirelessly connect to the internet (starting from the iBook G3 Clamshell, 1999).
- The iPad. It may look like an oversized iPod, but it is the only product that had a significant higher percentage than other competitors, market share wise (61% compared to 7% second place).
- The Mac. This kickstarted Apple as a company. Though there are other alternatives to many macs these days from other companies, they still continue to innovate and compete with the compeition.
"Fun Facts" About Apple
- The word "Mac" is derived from the word "McInTosh" which is a type of apple found in Canada. However, due to legal reasons, Apple had to change this to "MacInTosh" which was later shortened to just "Mac."
- The word "iPad" was initially taken by a Japanese company (the Fujitsu iPad), so Apple had to purchase the naming rights for $4 million.
- Apple is very good at hiding unreleased products, but in 2010, Apple engineered Gray Powell left his prototype iPhone 4 in a bar, which allowed everyone to see what it would look like, several months before it actually released.
- The iPhone 1st generation (or 2g) was not actually the first phone Apple made. In 2005, they collaborated with Motorola to create the Motorola Rokr (or iTunes Phone) but the lackluster effort from both parties resulted in a phone that quickly failed.
- The reason why the company's name was "Apple" was because co-founder Steve Jobs was engaging in Buddhist traditions at the time, which included being on a diet which consisted of multiple fruits, including apples.
